We make it easy for you to properly insure your vacation properties. And best of all, our policies are about $40/month for vacation condos and $75/month for vacation houses. Continue reading to learn why Square One is right for you.

House coverages. Your house is probably the largest asset you own. So, properly protecting it is really important. Our system will help you determine the estimated rebuild cost for your house, which will be your building limit minimum. You’ll then have the option of insuring any detached structures on your property as well as landscaping, fences and gardening equipment.

Building: This coverage protects, on an extended replacement cost basis, the main structure of your house as well as attached garages, swimming pools and hot tubs. It also provides protection against additional costs due to changes in ordinance or law.
Detached structures, fences and landscaping: This optional coverage protects any structures located on the property that are not attached to your house, including carriage homes, docks, garages, gazebos, workshops and sheds. It also protects all trees, shrubs, lawns, fences, retaining walls, rockeries, and anything else that improves your home's curb appeal. Note that patio furniture is considered personal property.

Condo coverages. The most common condo insurance coverages are listed below. For each of these coverages, we’ll help you determine what limit of insurance is right for you. Unlike our competitors, we don’t force you to buy protection you don’t need.

Condo improvements, fixtures and glass: This optional coverage protects any upgrades, additions or alterations made to your condo unit after it was originally built, whether made by you or a previous owner. It also protects any countertops, flooring, glass or other fixtures in your unit that you are responsible for insuring under the bylaws of your condo corporation.

Condo property protection: Protects against amounts you are assessed to offset a property insurance deductible paid by your condominium corporation. It also protects against repair costs to the building and common areas that: (1) fall beneath your condominium corporation's property insurance deductible; (2) are not covered by your condominium corporation's property insurance; or, (3) result from a shortfall in your condominium corporation's property insurance.

Other coverages. There are a few other coverages that are essential to any insurance policy, including liability protection.

Bicycles sporting equipment, firearms and watercraft: This optional coverage protects firearms of any description, and any personal and portable equipment used for athletic or recreational activities. This includes cycling, equestrian, fishing, golf, hang-gliding, hockey, hunting, paragliding, shooting, skating, skiing, snowboarding, surfing and windsurfing. It also protects commercially manufactured boats, canoes and kayaks. Any watercraft must be no more than 20 feet in length and, if motorized, must have no more than 25 horsepower in total. And, it protects related property like accessories, equipment and trailers.

Fine arts and collectibles: This optional coverage protects visual art, including paintings, sculptures, drawings, limited edition prints, and other pieces that cannot be easily replaced, like hand-woven or hand-knotted rugs or carpets made in Asia. It also protects any items collected as a hobby, for display, or as an investment whose value may appreciate, including sports card collections, first edition books, and coin collections. And, it protects any porcelain ware, plates, cups, saucers that are used on special occasions; eating and serving utensils made of silver that are also used on special occasions; and figurines made of porcelain or ceramic material.
Premises liability: Protects against amounts you are legally responsible to pay for unintentional injury to someone or damage to their property arising from the ownership or use of your home.

Policy deductibles. A policy deductible is the amount you must pay before your home insurance policy will respond. For example, if your $2,500 laptop is stolen and the claim is subject to a $1,000 deductible, you must pay the first $1,000 and your policy will cover the remaining $1,500. The higher the deductible you select, the lower the premium you pay on your insurance.

Below are the various deductibles that may apply. It's important to note that only one deductible applies per claim even if payments are made under multiple policy coverages. The type of loss will determine the deductible that applies.

Standard: This deductible applies to each insured loss not specifically mentioned earlier. For example, the sewer backup deductible, not the standard deductible, applies to each insured loss resulting from a sewer backup.
Sewer backup: This deductible applies to each insured loss resulting from a sewer backup. If this deductible applies, you may be presented with a couple options.
Wind and hail: This deductible applies to each insured loss resulting from a windstorm or hailstorm. If this deductible applies, you may be presented with a couple options.

Comprehensive protection. At Square One, you get a comprehensive (all-risk) policy. That means you're protected against all types of loss, except for those listed in the exclusions. Commonly covered losses include break-ins, burst pipes, hailstorms, fires, and more. Commonly excluded losses include coastal floods, repeated leakage, and wear and tear.
